Optional fun challenges for half term

Hello Year 2!

laugh

We are not setting work for half term but I have been thinking about the time we have been spending at home and the things that we have been doing. enlightenedIn our Jigsaw lessons before Easter, we were thinking about setting challenges for ourselves and how we could work to be successful and persevere when challenges were tough. We were also learning to deal with and communicate our feelings when things are challenging for us. I was wondering what life skills you have learnt/improved on/become more independent with or challenges you have set for yourself during home learning?

It could be things like:

  • gardening
  • making your bed
  • tidying your own bedroom
  • vacuuming
  • dusting
  • sorting out the recycling
  • putting the shopping away
  • tying your shoe laces
  • loading and unloading the dishwasher
  • cooking/baking
  • laying the table at meal times
  • washing and drying up
  • hanging out the washing
  • taking more responsibility for looking after a pet
  • become more independent/confident when completing some home learning
  • or a craft or other skill that you are interested in

I have been learning more about gardening during lock down and how to do some DIY jobs around my house (I will try and take and attach some pictures of me doing these and post them for you).

If you have taken on a challenge and learnt to do something new during home learning, please send me a photograph or video of you doing it and we can celebrate these together. If you don't think that you have learnt something new/achieved a challenge yet (which I am sure that most of you have, even if you haven't realised it until now), then maybe over half term you could set yourself the challenge to learn something and achieve it by the end of half term?

This is an activity for you to have some time for reflection with your family and think about what you have accomplished/persevered with during this time and I am sure that there are lots of things that you will feel extremely proud of.

Parents, if you are happy for your child's picture to go onto the class page, can you please let me know in the email. Thank you. yes

I have also put a link on this section to The Premier League Primary Stars Friday Family Challenges, as I came across them and thought that some of you may like to attempt some of them.

I am also attaching the British Sign Language fingerspelling alphabet. The fingerspelling alphabet is used in sign language to spell out names of people and places for which there is not a sign. This is used by people who have their hearing impaired or are deaf, and by people who are not hearing impaired so that they can communicate with one another. Sometimes Mrs Marshall uses signing with some of the songs that she teaches us.

If you would like a new challenge over half term, you (and your family) could learn to spell your names using the fingerspelling alphabet. You could send me a video of you spelling your name to the home learning email or show me when we are back at school. I am going to try and learn to spell my name and I will send you a video on the messages page when I have achieved this challenge.

Oak National Academy are also setting up a half term club with activities on their website which you can access if you get bored. smiley

It is good to try new things and learn something new.

Have a wonderful half term. Relax and have fun.

Hopefully the sun will keep shining and you can enjoy your outdoor spaces safely.

Hope to hear from some of you soon.

Kindest well wishes,

Miss Low smiley
