Writing Competition Winners

Reading Teacher = Reading Pupils Competition 2021

Last year, Mr. Eaton was part of a book group where local teachers in the area reviewed different books every half term that could potentially be used as a teaching resource in the classroom.

The book group ran a competition, open to the schools of all the teachers, to produce a piece of creative writing based on one of the books covered by the group. One of these books was called ‘Town is by the Sea’ by Joanne Schwartz.  This is a picture book about a boy who lives in a small mining town by the sea and aimed at children in key stage 2.  This book aligned really well with the Year 5 topic at the time:  'Black Country Mining'. Year 5 spent some time in the classroom reading the book and identifying characters and settings to enable the children to write a setting description using scenes in the book.

After receiving lots of entries, the judges decided that due to the quality of vocabulary, use of figurative language and structure of their work, Hugh and Seren were the winners! This means that the school will receive £100 of books for our school library that all children can benefit from.

Well done and thank you to them both!
