World Book Day 2017.
Although Thursday 2nd March was World Book Day, at Blakedown we decided to celebrate this across the week beginning 27th February. This also coincided with our new half term topic 'From a Story', which is all about reading and writing.
During the half term break, all the children were tasked to capture a picture of themselves reading in unusual and 'extreme' places and to send this into school. All the pictures are currently displayed in the library area and are very amusing to look at! The week also started with guided reading sessions with parents, this first week was for our Reception class and parents/carers. During the week, the class-linked governors visited their class for a short while and read a selection of their favourite stories and talked to the children about why they were their favourites. Then on Thursday after school, all children were invited to come back to school for an hour in their pyjamas and have a bedtime story and some hot chocolate, even the teachers were in their pyjamas! The week ended with everyone dressing up as a book character on the Friday and bringing in their favourite books to share with each other. The school bell rang at intervals across the day and when this happened, all other work stopped for 10 minutes so that we could all read together.
The reading focus continues for us across the half term as each year group has a turn at inviting their parents/carers in to join a guided reading session and it also forms a part of our focused topic work.
Thank you to all families for putting together such fabulous outfits for World Book Day - the children looked fabulous.
