Homework & Spelling Tasks

Homework over half-term

Children in Class 4 have not been set a specific piece of homework however it is expected that they will continue to complete the following:

  • Reading with an adult on a daily basis.
  • Practice of times tables. We would encourage children to practice all times tables up to 12 x 12 in Years 4 and 5.
  • Practice of year appropriate spellings. Below you can find attached the National Curriculum word list for Years 3 & 4, and for Years 5 & 6.
  • It would also be beneficial if children would like to do any research into our topic for the upcoming half-term. The school topic is 'Extreme Climates' and in Class 4 we will be comparing a UK region with the European country Norway. Please refer to the topic web in 'Our Topics' page for more details.

Weekly homework in Class 4 consists of completing the following for Year 4 and 5:

  • One Literacy/Grammar task provided weekly
  • One Numeracy task provided weekly
  • Spelling practice at home of weekly spellings for testing Monday
  • Reading with an adult on a daily basis
  • A project style task to be set at the start of each half-term relating to the Class's topic. This is a creative piece and can be interpreted however the child wishes. We encourage children to complete this as independently as possible. Each project will be due in in the final week of half-term.

It is extremely helpful when comments are made in reading records and zone board cards regarding homework based on your child's achievements or difficulties. As always, if there are any problems with any homework tasks, please do not hesitate to ask for help and support.
